Lookism

Popular expression tells: "The beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Is it true? Nowadays, more and more people do not believe that. That is why the issue of lookism is very popular. Lookism is a biased attitude towards people who are considered physically unattractive. If earlier the disease of society was discrimination on the basis of nationality and ethnicity, then now its place is gradually occupied by lookism.Due to media influence, a lot of teenagers and adults have started to worry about their physical appearance as the “ideals” of one’s body image are dictated by different kinds of media.

I find the issue of lookism important as, according to recent studies, values of people have been distorted. Beauty is regarded as something “standardized” and plays a great role in people’s everyday life. Because of the media influence people started caring mostly about their external beauty than about inner one.
